LG continues to prove itself as a force to be reckoned with and following a story from the Korean Yohap News Agency, it’s plenty clear that the handset manufacturer has no intentions of slowing down any time soon. LG’s head of Mobile Ahn Seung-kwon reportedly coughed up a hell of an interview with Yohap, during the course of which several tasty morsels came to light: LG, currently holding the number three position where global cell phone market share is concerned, plans to slide into the number two spot by 2012. Reaction to the rumored X2 pictures leaked this far has been lukewarm at best, but hold up — it’s looking a whole lot different (and arguably better) in silver. We can certainly buy that this is dead-on real, since… well, it looks real, and also because the X1’s also available in both shades. We’re still not convinced it outshines its predecessor for sheer sex appeal, but an 8.1 megapixel camera upgrade is hard to argue with, isn’t it?

iRex promise color ebook reader in 2011: 3x brighter than rivals

E-reader manufacturer iRex have announced [pdf link] that they intend to have a color, writable ebook reader on the market by 2011. The device, which is currently unnamed, will use a system of subtractive color mixing which, according to iRex, results in three times the brightness of existing additive color electrophoretic displays. Details on the subtractive e-ink technology are scant, but it is compared to physical printing whereby colors act as filters to absorb portions of white light striking them and reflect back the desired hue. The additive system, meanwhile, mixes together backlit or illuminated colors to create hues, often requiring filters that can reduce overall quality. iRex believe that their subtractive e-ink displays will offer print-quality visuals to magazines and other full-color publications, and push them ahead of the crowd. Meanwhile color e-paper producers have reportedly delayed their launches to 2010, in the face of technical issues. Microsoft’s Bing mobile site now live

We’re not sure if Microsoft plans to get as deep into the mobile website business as Google but as of yesterday, the company’s new Bing mobile site is alive and ready for action. Bing, for those who took a long weekend, is Microsoft’s new search engine ; a reincarnation of Microsoft Live Search that is infinitely more usable. Since its launch yesterday in preview form, Bing has definitely received a fair amount of acclaim from around the blogosphere and preliminary user feedback is pretty positive as well. In the short time we’ve tested the site so far, Bing mobile is no different.

It feels like just yesterday that Microsoft had blessed the internet with its new search engine, Bing, and as of today we mobile addicts have access to this service on our phones. If you head over to m.bing.com on your handheld, you’ll find yourself on a lite version of this Bing’s titan service. So does this compete with the Google’s mobile service? Not just yet, and it seems that Microsoft has omitted all those fancy features that has made Bing a near-overnight success.

Nokia N97 pre-orders shipping soon, support pages go live

June — now officially dubbed the month of the mobile — is almost upon us and among the myriad of exciting new handsets that will debut or at least become official this month is the Nokia N97. Our Finnish friends have high hopes for this pricey little piece of kit, which will be Nokia’s first Nseries to sport a touchscreen along with the S60 5th Edition OS. As for the NAM edition, it’s now looking like that rumor of pre-orders shipping in early June might just pan out — we’ve received a few tips from people who have pre-ordered the handset from Amazon and they’ve apparently received emails stating the handset will ship the week of June 15th. It stands to reason of course, that units will begin shipping directly Nokia before then or at least by that week.
