Home: Movie Premieres Simultaneously on YouTube, DVD, TV, and in Theaters

Tomorrow, Home , a documentary about the environment, will make both its big and small screen debut simultaneously. Users will be able to watch the movie on YouTube, but at the same time, it will also be available on DVD, in cinemas (at least in France), and it will be shown as a primetime broadcast on France 2. The film was directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and produced by Luc Besson , who also produced The Fifth Element and other popular movies. This marks the first time that a full-length movie makes its debut both on YouTube and in theaters, and is a good example of YouTube’s efforts to attract more advertisers by featuring more professionally produced content.

MSI Wind Box DE200 nettop with ATI graphics

Hot on the heels of ASUS’ new Eee Box nettops comes rival MSI’s new Wind Box DE200. Sporting a new tapered design that reminds me of a Cylon’s helmet, the Wind Box DE200 pairs Intel’s Atom 230 1.6GHz processor with an ATI Radeon HD 4350 GPU and HDMI output. Other specs include 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 3.5-inch 160GB hard-drive and WiFi b/g/n. The HDMI port shares space with a VGA port, making the DE200 equally happy as a low-power desktop PC as it is an entry-level HTPC. We’re not expecting the same graphics performance that you might get from an NVIDIA Ion-based nettop like the Acer AspireRevo , but the Radeon should still offer a pleasant shove over Intel’s integrated chipsets. The MSI Wind Box DE200 will run Windows XP Home and be available in four colors – red, blue, white and black – but we don’t yet have any idea of pricing or availability. Acer Aspire Timeline out of the box and loving life

While it’s always a fun rush to see an unopened box in a Canadian store room , we’re much more excited about what’s inside the box, and friendly tipster James somehow managed to buy himself an Acer Aspire Timeline 5810TZ-4657 in Iowa about a week ago. For a scant $598 he got a 15-inch display, DVD drive, Intel U2700 1.3GHz processor and 3GB of RAM — which makes most similarly specced “thin and lights” seem a little silly in comparison. He says he’s gotten around 7 hours of battery on max power saving mode, and about 4-5 hours on max use, finds the 720p webcam comparable to a Flip camera, enjoys the keyboard and multitouch trackpad, and overall finds the system to be very quick and responsive running Vista. Acer still hasn’t confirmed an official lineup, price or availability for these things, but we’ve gotta think it’s gonna be soon — if this is right, it’s almost too good not to share.

Microsoft dropping three app limit from Windows 7 Starter Edition

In some really encouraging news, Paul Thurrott at SuperSite for Windows is reporting that Microsoft isn’t gonna put the arbitrary limit on its netbook-bound Windows 7 Starter Edition where users could only run three applications at a time . Now the only thing holding you back from simultaneous Skype, AIM, browsing, DVD playback, and Plants vs. Zombies will be the space on your screen and the specs in your portable. So how will they tempt users to upgrade to Home or Premium now?

eMachines delivers EL1300 line of small form factor PCs

Once the laughing stock of the PC world, eMachines has managed to pull together some rather stylish looking rigs over the past few months.
