Apparently the only way to stop people from continuously sending this tip in is to run it, so here we go: Eric Schmidt was caught rocking a BlackBerry. Oooooooo. Sure Google’s CEO can have his pick from the current stock of Android-powered handsets and likely from amongst a handful of unannounced devices as well.

BlackBerry Onyx with optical trackpad is all smiles for Mr. Blurrycam

We’ve been saying that this would be the case for as long as we can remember , but today a new photograph has emerged which lends irrefutable evidence to our long-standing claim. The BlackBerry 9020, for now known by its codename Onyx, will be shipping out retail-style with an optical trackpad in lieu of the trackball. Based on the photograph above it’s impossible to tell if what we’re looking at is a late prototype or an early production unit, but seeing as the Onyx has already begun its factory journey we certainly can’t rule the later out.

Sprint mandating WiFi on future smartphones, WLAN-lovin’ BlackBerry Tour coming next year

By the time Sprint gets around to releasing the 9630 Tour with WiFi, due out sometime early next year, we think most everyone’ll have moved on to any one of the numerous BlackBerry devices likely to hit in the interim. What’s more important in this FierceWireless report is that Sprint’s requiring WiFi “in all its major devices going forward” — which should mean pretty much every smartphone that lands in its CDMA-loving mitts. Verizon Wireless, who along with Sprint is also launching the WLAN-less Tour this Sunday , said that the company’s working with RIM to get WiFi into future BlackBerry, but didn’t oblige us with any hopeful descriptors that’d help us understand just how strong of a push was being made.

Sprint says no pre-orders for BlackBerry Tour

Following the Verizon Tour pre-order debacle and subsequent redemption , it looks like Sprint is a bit more firm in its position. Sorry Sprint folks, but it looks like you’ll have to hit up your local Sprint store or telesales on the day of release if you plan on grabbing a 9630. Twitter user @srdoherty , who is the manager of social media and interactive communications at Sprint, answered a query from a Sprint user confirming the inability to pre-order a Tour.

Bell to launch the BlackBerry Tour on July 17th, $699.95 retail

AT&T chops prices of BlackBerry Bold and Curve 8900 to $199.99 and $149.99

Good news for those of you who are in dire need of a new smartphone but would prefer to stick to models that have been given the “all clear” in consumer reviews instead of grabbing the hottest new toys. Just like we told you in our scoop back in early May, AT&T has just slashed the 2-year contract price of the BlackBerry Bold to $199.99. What’s more, the Curve 8900 has been cut to $149.99 — the price it was originally going to launch at according to our sources. Previously $299.99 and $199.99 respectively, the Bold shed off a third of its price tag while the newest-kid-on-the-block (to AT&T, anyway) is now ripe for the picking.
